10,000 Steps a Day: The Gold Standard?

10,000 Steps a Day: The Gold Standard?

One thing that nearly everyone can agree on is that walking is a great form of exercise. In this blog post, we will take a look at the 10,000 steps per day goal and see if it really is the gold standard for personal fitness!

Walking is a great form of exercise for many reasons. It is low impact, so it is easy on your joints. Walking is also free and can be done almost anywhere! For these reasons, walking is often recommended as a form of exercise for people who are just starting to get active.

The idea of taking at least 10,000 steps per day originated from a Japanese study in the 1960s. The original study found that people who took at least 10000 steps per day were healthier than those who did not. This finding has been backed up by many other studies over the years.

So, is taking 10,000 steps per day the gold standard for personal fitness? That depends on your personal fitness goals. If your goal is to simply be more active, then 10000 steps is a great goal to aim for, but for people who simply want to improve their health studies show that even 7,000 steps shows significant health improvements.

Walking is a great form of exercise, but it may not be enough to reach your weight loss or fat loss goals. A personal trainer can help you create a plan that includes other forms of exercise, such as strength training and a nutrition program.
